BE-STREAMING 2016 Suriname

The Ministry of
Education, Science and Culture (MinOWC) organized  in collaboration with the
Basic Education Improvement Program (BEIP)  Innovation in Primary Education
(IBO) - festival. The Festival was
for three days  (Thursday 11 February - Saturday 13 February).
I had worked in the Science booth together with the daughter of Prof. Padhu . I really admire her that she knows and also teaches me some things at such a young age.
We did a little experiment of DNA necklace. The students were given a little cup with Gatorade in it and they had to take it in their mouth and spit it back in the cup, and we put a little soap water that was mixed with Ruben alcohol 70 % in the spit and mixed it. After that we leave it for some seconds to stand and the DNA began to split up from the spit than we take it with a pipet and fill it in a hulls and tie piece of cotton rope on it . That's how we made the DNA necklace for the students with their own spit. Here are some pictures of the festival.

 

 I also did the eggshell experiment. I had put raw eggs in vinegar for 48 hours and the hard shell became a soft shell. The eggs were only an example for the sea turtles. The sea turtles are living in danger. The toxic chemicals left overs from products are being dumped in the sea and the sea turtles shells are also turning soft . That's why we showed an example with the eggshells. Only to show the students that the sea turtles shells are also becoming soft, and they will die if humans don't stop harming them.
